2016 Luminary Festival
Saturday December 17th from 4:00-8:00pm will be the 6th annual Luminary Festival in honor or in memory of your beloved pets. Please make sure to order your luminaries for $20 at the shelter or by mail by December 15th so that they are sure to be included in the “path of light”.
Please feel free to join us for a peaceful walk around the shelter, enjoying the seasonal decorations while you find your luminary. The luminaries are marked with the event name and date and will serve as a beautiful keepsake. Afterwards you are welcome inside for beverages and cookies and to share your favorite pet stories.
Please visit our memory table to write a note for a missed pet and light a candle. This can be a powerful and healing ritual!
NEW THIS YEAR! At 6:00PM please join us for the Blessing of the Pets ceremony with Pastor Abby Leese of Zion Lutheran Chruch, Etters. After the ceremony, Pastor Leese will do individual blessing of your pets – past or present. Your pets are welcome to join you at this wonderful event!

Introducing Lady Katherine!
Lady Katherine is a 6 year old unregistered thoroughbred mare. She stands 15.2 hands. Although Lady K is still considered green, she has a broad foundation of training. She has been schooled in a ring – W, T, and C; and has many miles of cross country work. As with all of our young horses, she has been exposed to various events to help with her development – hunter paces, schooling shows, and trailering to dressage lessons. She has excellent ground manners, including standing for the vet and farrier. Her preferred home is a pasture with a shed – 24/7.
Lady Katherine has the potential to do just about anything asked of her. She has developed a good work ethic. She is sound, forward, willing, and is exceptionally responsive to training. At the same time, she can become distracted and anxious in certain situations. She is making progress in learning how to relax and return to a state of calm after becoming anxious, but she will require an experienced and steady rider to continue her education and help her build confidence.
We believe that Lady K has a very bright future. We would like to see her re-homed where she will continue to have variety in her experiences with someone who will have the patience, desire and commitment to help her reach her full potential.
Lady K’s video can be seen at:
For more information on Lady Katherine, please call York County SPCA at (717) 764-6109 ext. 128
